  • Variety of long term cultivation tradition, especially recommended for green matter cultivation.
  • Highly yielded variety with high protein content.
  • Good resistance to powdery and downy mildew.
  • Brown colored seed with bright mark and low cyanogenic compounds content.

Cultivation

  • The most suitable soils for vetch cultivation are very good wheat soils and very good rye soils. The highest yields are achieved on fertile, concentrated and high moisture soils. In case of green matter cultivation poorer soils may be used. Vetch cultivation requires neutral pH soils. What’s important – vetch schould be cultivated not often than every 4 years.
  • Autumn ploughing as pre-sowing preparation and spring pre-sowing aggregate are recommended. Sowing term should be early, plants have good tolerance to low temperatures. The seeds in pure sowing should be placed into the soil on the depth of 6 cm. Sowing rate should be 110-120 kg of seeds/ha.
  • Optimal sowing rate in pure sowing is about 200 seeds/m2, which is 80-110 kg/ha. Generally in main crop cereal mixtures are used (e.g. 30 kg of vetch + 150 kg of oats). Vetch may be also sown in stubble after crop with the purpose of feeding or ploughing.
  • Nitrogen fertilization is limited to a single application of 20-30 kg/ha and 40-60 kg/ha in cereals mixtures, to achieve higher yields. Phosphorus and Potassium fertilization is generally carried out in the rate of 60-80 kg/ha P2O5 and 120-140 kg/ha K2O.
  • Weed control: it’s recommended to conduct harrowing before sowing or after sowing, when the plants achieve 5-10 cm. Due to luck of recommendations regarding chemical weed control, it must be remembered that soils should be well-maintained and without weed infestation.
  • Pest control: weevil and aphid should be chemical controlled with e.g. Fastac 10EC in the rate of 0,1 l/ha. All pest control treatments should be applied according to official recommendations published by Institute of Plant Protection.
  • Vetch harvest in pure sowing might be troublesome due to lodging. Generally one-phase harvesting is recommended. What’s important – the plants should be fully ripe with all brown pods. There is no need of desiccation. In case of green matter cultivation vetch might be harvested from the beginning of flowering till the phase of flat pod.
