A forage rye variety!
Dańkowskie Awangardo is the first forage rye variety bred by DANKO, developed for farms focused on producing large amounts of biomass for both feed and energy purposes.
Thanks to its dense foliage, the variety produces very high fresh and dry matter yields, making it an excellent choice for green fodder, silage and biogas production, as well as for use as a winter catch crop and cover crop. It also makes a good preceding crop for maize.
The variety is characterized by very rapid initial growth, broad leaves and early heading. It has very good tillering ability, contributing to its high yield potential, as well as high resistance to snow mold.
Dry matter yields can reach approx. 90 dt/ha, while fresh matter yields can reach as much as 600 dt/ha (approx. 420 dt/ha).
For cultivation, a nitrogen rate of 40–80 kg N/ha is recommended, most commonly applied as a single dose at the beginning of the growing season to stimulate tillering and biomass production.
For silage production, harvesting is carried out at the heading stage (BBCH 55), from the end of April to mid-May. After a short wilting period, the crop is harvested with a forage harvester. The optimum dry matter content is 30–35%. Early harvesting allows the subsequent crop to be sown in good time.
Recommended sowing rates:
- For grain: 2 sowing units/ha (260 viable seeds/m², i.e. 80–90 kg/ha)
- For green fodder: approx. 330–450 seeds/m², i.e. approx. 120–170 kg/ha
- For winter cover: approx. 300–330 seeds/m², i.e. approx. 100–120 kg/ha
For early sowing and intensive cultivation, the sowing rate can be reduced by 10%, while for delayed sowing it should be increased by 10%
